A Complex Crisis Requires Complex Care
The faces, causes, and conditions of homelessness are constantly changing. At The City Mission, we’ve watched the majority homeless population evolve from primarily single men through the 20th century to a devastating crisis of mothers with children today. We’ve seen the main causes of crisis shift from a simple effect of personal choices to a more complex cycle of generational poverty; and our work has been forced to adapt as conditions of care shifted from private provision by churches to one size fits all government subsidies.
Meeting the Needs of Unique Populations
Many people familiar with The City Mission think of us in terms of our different ministries – Laura’s Home Women’s Crisis Center, Pathways Family Services, and Crossroads Men’s Crisis Center. But the different groups we serve within each program have unique crises and needs to be met than it might appear on the surface.
